SEBI requires the top 1,000 listed companies by market capitalisation to publish a Business Responsibility and Sustainability Report as part of their annual report, and the BRSR Core set of KPIs is being phased into reasonable assurance or assessment for progressively more companies. We collect and validate the data across all nine NGRBC principles, draft the report in SEBI's format, prepare the evidence trail for the assurance provider and align the disclosures with your GRI or ISSB reporting.
Legal basis: Regulation 34(2)(f) of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015; SEBI circulars of May 2021 (BRSR format) and July 2023 (BRSR Core, assurance and value-chain disclosures), as amended by SEBI in December 2024; National Guidelines on Responsible Business Conduct, 2019

How we get it done
- 1
Applicability and scoping
Week 1We confirm your position in the market-cap ranking, the BRSR Core and assurance obligations for the year, and the reporting boundary (standalone or consolidated).
- 2
Data collection and validation
Week 1–4Using our BRSR data templates, we gather Section A, B and C data from HR, EHS, finance, procurement and secretarial teams, reconcile it to source records and compute intensity ratios as per the SEBI format.
- 3
Drafting the BRSR
Week 4–6The report is drafted in SEBI's prescribed format with essential and leadership indicators, cross-referenced to GRI / ISSB disclosures where applicable, and reviewed by your legal and secretarial teams.
- 4
Assurance / assessment support
Week 6–8For companies in the BRSR Core glide path, we prepare the evidence pack, walk the assurance provider through methodologies and close observations before sign-off.
- 5
Filing and XBRL
Week 8–9The final BRSR is integrated into the annual report and filed with the stock exchanges in the XBRL format, and we debrief on improvements for the next cycle.
If you don’t comply
Failure to file the BRSR, or filing it late, is non-compliance with Regulation 34 of the SEBI LODR Regulations and attracts fines levied by the stock exchanges under SEBI's uniform structure for non-compliance (currently a per-day fine for delayed filings), with escalation to freezing of promoter holdings and potential action under Sections 11 and 15HB of the SEBI Act for persistent default. Misstatement of ESG data in the BRSR also exposes the company and directors to action for misleading disclosures.

Frequently asked questions
What is BRSR Core and how is it different from BRSR?
BRSR Core is a sub-set of the BRSR consisting of nine key attributes with specific KPIs — GHG footprint, water footprint, energy footprint, waste, employee wellbeing and safety, gender diversity, inclusive development, fairness in customer and supplier engagement and openness of business — that SEBI requires to be subject to reasonable assurance or, following the December 2024 amendments, independent assessment by a qualified third party. The full BRSR remains the report; BRSR Core is the audited core of it.
Who needs assurance and from when?
SEBI phased the BRSR Core assurance requirement by market-cap rank: top 150 listed companies from FY 2023–24, top 250 from FY 2024–25, top 500 from FY 2025–26 and top 1,000 from FY 2026–27. SEBI's December 2024 amendments allow companies to choose between reasonable assurance and an 'assessment' by a third-party assessor against standards developed by the Industry Standards Forum.
What are the value chain disclosure requirements?
The top 250 listed companies are required to disclose BRSR Core KPIs for their value chain partners (upstream and downstream partners that together account for a significant share of purchases or sales) on a comply-or-explain basis, with the timeline having been deferred and made voluntary for an initial period under SEBI's December 2024 relaxations. We help you decide which partners are in scope and build a practical data collection process with them.
Can we use our GRI or ISSB report instead of BRSR?
No — BRSR in SEBI's prescribed format is mandatory for the top 1,000 listed companies. However, SEBI explicitly allows cross-referencing to disclosures made under international frameworks, so a company reporting under GRI, ISSB or TCFD can point to those disclosures and avoid duplicating narrative, provided the BRSR data fields are fully populated.
When is the BRSR due?
The BRSR forms part of the annual report, which under Regulation 34 must be submitted to the stock exchanges no later than the day it is dispatched to shareholders and at least 21 days before the AGM. In practice, that means BRSR data must be closed within roughly two months of the financial year end, which is why we start data collection in parallel with the financial audit.
